To go Alkaline or Not?

Going Alkaline is all the rage. It helps you lose weight, fights cancer, etc.

What exactly is an alkaline diet?

Foods are classified into three categories for the residues they produced after your body has digested these foods. The residues or ash can be either acidic, alkaline or neutral.

Acidic: Meat, poultry, fish, dairy, eggs, grains and alcohol

Neutral: Natural Fats, starches and sugars

Alkaline: Fruits, Nuts, Legumes and Vegetables

It is thought that cancers cannot live in an alkaline environment and an acidic body causes the cancer cells to multiply. And also, in an acidic environment, calcium is leached from the bones to neutralise the acid. This also has led some to conclude that osteoporosis is caused partly by an acidic diet.

There is also research that points the other direction: successful experiments have been done to grow cancer cells in an alkaline environment. While tumors grow faster in acidic environments, the tumors create this acidity themselves. And also with regards to the osteoporosis theory, it ignores the function of the kidney. The kidneys are fundamental to removing acids and regulating body pH. And high protein diets (though acid forming) are linked with healthier bones.

What’s my conclusion?

Eat as natural, and as unprocessed foods as possible as that is what are our ancestors ate. Some amount of animal protein (wild caught fish, free range eggs, grass fed beef, etc) can be consumed 2-3 times a week if they are farmed ethically.

Cancers form in our body for a variety of reasons – genetics, diet and lifestyle, linked to your emotions (toxic emotions can cause your body stress), lack of exercise, the quality of the air you breathe, the water you drink.. etc. Besides your diet, the other factors are not to be ignored is exercise and a holistic lifestyle. Your state of your soul (spiritual) also plays a part in your health.

Interestingly, vegetable juice is alkalising and fruit juice, to a certain extent, is acidifying. We, at Daily Juice, highly encourage you to juice your vegetables and eat your fruits. Drinking fruit juice is fine, in moderation. Eating your vegetables are highly encouraged too 🙂
